Armington is a village of about 310 people in Tazewell County, Illinois, 16.2 road miles and about 35 minutes north of Lincoln by the county roads, which makes it a longer drive than the miles suggest. The village was laid out on August 17, 1855 by the man it is named for and incorporated in 1904, and the first settlers in the township had come for the groves and the rich soil along Sugar Creek, where the Hittle and Judy families kept the settlement called Hittle's Grove going until 1926.

Those groves are still the tree work: bur oak, white oak, black walnut and shagbark hickory in the remnant timber along the creek, and silver maple, hackberry, Scotch pine and dead ash on the village lots and farmsteads. Armington is our first Tazewell County stop, and the county line changes nothing about the price or the crew.
