Williamsville, IL: Tree Work Down the Old Road

Williamsville is a village of about 1,425 people in Sangamon County, Illinois, 19.3 road miles and about 25 minutes south of Lincoln on old Route 66, the last stop on our run down the old road through Broadwell and Elkhart. It was laid out in 1853 under the name Benton, the Chicago & Alton put a station here in the spring of 1854, the name changed to honor Colonel John Williams, a pioneer businessman, and the village incorporated on May 14, 1866.

Williamsville has grown more than most places on our list, so the tree work splits two ways: newer subdivisions with Bradford pears, honeylocusts and red maples planted close to houses that are outgrowing their spots, and the old blocks by the tracks with big silver maples, hackberries and white oaks over roofs and service drops. Williamsville is our first Sangamon County stop, and the county line changes nothing about the price.

Williamsville is the south end of our old-road run, so Kelsey groups it with Elkhart and Broadwell estimates and the dates come quickly. Crossing into Sangamon County makes no difference to the price.
