Beason is a community of about 150 people in Oran Township, Logan County, Illinois, 10.0 road miles and about 18 minutes east of Lincoln, one mile south of Illinois Route 10. Silas Beason established it on July 29, 1872 as a stop on what became a branch of the Illinois Central, and it has never incorporated, so the county is the government here.

Beason knows storms firsthand: on June 29, 2023 the derecho that crossed central Illinois dropped an EF1 tornado at Beason the same afternoon another one hit Kickapoo Creek Park on the northwest side of Lincoln. Two years on, we are still finding cracked leaders and hangers in the silver maples and hackberries it twisted. The yards run to sugar maple, black walnut and honeylocust, with dead ash at the field edges and Osage orange along the old fence lines.
