Tree Removal on the Mother Road in Atlanta, IL

Atlanta is a city of about 1,670 people in Logan County, Illinois, 12.5 road miles and about 18 minutes northeast of Lincoln on old Route 66. It was platted as Xenia in 1853, took its present name soon after, and was incorporated on February 14, 1855 where the Chicago & Alton main line crossed the townsite; today the Route 66 giant stands downtown and the water tower has worn a smiley face since 2003.

Atlanta also carries the county's worst storm memory: on May 5, 1977 an F4 tornado leveled homes here, and the trees that replaced the ones it took are now forty-plus years old and full size. That means silver maples, Bradford pears and honeylocusts planted fast after the storm, standing over roofs and garages on the same lots, plus older white oaks and hackberries that survived it.

Why a Lincoln Crew Comes to Atlanta

Why Folks in Atlanta Call Us

Eighteen Minutes Up Route 66

Atlanta is a straight run up the old road from Lincoln, and we pair it with McLean and Armington work. Kelsey can usually book an estimate here within a couple of days, and a storm call gets a same-day look.

Trees Planted After the 1977 Tornado

The silver maples and Bradford pears planted after the May 1977 F4 are full size now and splitting at the crotch. We take the hazard wood over the house first and reduce the rest properly instead of topping.

Old Oaks on the Downtown Blocks

The white oaks and hackberries that came through the storm are the biggest trees in Atlanta and stand over sidewalks and service drops. We climb and rig every piece, and we schedule oak pruning outside the April-to-July oak wilt window.

A City With Its Own Code

Atlanta writes its own ordinances, separate from Lincoln's, so a tree over a city street means a quick call to city hall, and we tell you what it says. Outside the city, ask your fire protection district before burning.

Atlanta Questions, Answered

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Atlanta?

Not for a tree wholly on your own lot. Lincoln's parkway consent, trimming notice and burn days end at the Lincoln city limits, so they do not reach Atlanta. Our permits page covers the towns around the county.

How soon can you get to Atlanta?

Call (217) 555-0136. Storm damage gets a same-day or next-day answer, and a night emergency is made safe that night and cut at daylight.
