Kenney is a village of about 310 people in DeWitt County, Illinois, 24.7 road miles and about 37 minutes east of Lincoln by the county roads. It was named for its founder, Moses Kenney, and it still throws the Kenney Fall Festival the weekend after Labor Day; in November 1942 it became the first community in the country where every household signed on to the wartime V-Home campaign.

The ground is flat DeWitt County prairie at about 650 feet, drier than the creek bottoms near Lincoln, and the trees are the planted ones: sugar maples, silver maples and hackberries on the village lots, Bradford pears and blue spruce in the newer yards, Scotch pine windbreaks on the farmsteads, and dead ash along the fence rows.
