Clinton is the county seat of DeWitt County, Illinois, a city of about 7,000 people 21.9 road miles and about 39 minutes east of Lincoln, reached by Illinois Route 10 and sitting where U.S. 51 and Illinois 54 meet. It was founded in 1835 and named for DeWitt Clinton, and it lay on the Eighth Judicial Circuit that Abraham Lincoln rode with Judge David Davis for twenty years; the C.H. Moore House is now the DeWitt County Museum, and Clinton Lake lies six miles out.

Clinton is the biggest town we work outside Lincoln, with old white oaks, sugar maples and silver maples over the square blocks and the service drops, Bradford pears in the subdivisions, dead ash on nearly every street, and lake lots ringed with cottonwood and willow.
