Tree Removal Among the Turbines in Emden, IL

Emden is a village of about 465 people in Logan County, Illinois, 17.7 road miles and about 24 minutes northwest of Lincoln. It took its name from Emden, Germany, because so many of the families who settled here had come from villages along the River Ems, and the Emden Star was printing the local news by 1893.

Today the Rail Splitter Wind Farm is centered on the village, and the turbines on the fields around it tell you what the trees already know: this is open, flat ground with nothing to slow a thunderstorm or an ice storm coming across the prairie. Farmstead windbreaks were planted here for exactly that reason, and the old rows of Scotch pine, blue spruce and ash are thinning now, with most of the ash dead. Village lots carry sugar maple, silver maple, hackberry and black walnut over small yards.

Why a Lincoln Crew Comes to Emden

Why Folks in Emden Call Us

Twenty-Four Minutes Northwest

Emden is on our run through Hartsburg toward San Jose, so Kelsey groups the estimates and the dates come quickly. A storm call gets a same-day or next-day answer, and there is no trip charge in Logan County.

Windbreaks on Open Ground

The pine, spruce and ash rows around Emden farmsteads have stood through decades of wind and are dying a tree at a time. Marco clears the dead stretch with the skid steer, we keep the live row working, and the brush is chipped on site.

Ice on Maples and Walnuts

A winter ice storm loads the silver maples and black walnuts on Emden lots until the limbs let go. We take the broken wood and hangers down safely and reduce the rest properly instead of topping.

Village Ground, Village Rules

Emden is an incorporated village with its own ordinances, so a tree over a village street means a quick call to the village office, and we tell you what it says. Outside the village, ask your fire protection district before burning.

Emden Questions, Answered

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Emden?

Not for a tree wholly on your own lot. Lincoln's parkway consent, trimming notice and burn days end at the Lincoln city limits, so they do not reach Emden. Our permits page covers the towns around the county.

How soon can you get to Emden?

Call (217) 555-0136. Storm damage gets a same-day or next-day answer, and a night emergency is made safe that night and cut at daylight.
