San Jose, IL: Tree Work on the County Line

San Jose is a village of about 480 people in Logan and Mason counties, Illinois, 23.1 road miles and about 31 minutes northwest of Lincoln, where U.S. 136 runs through as Main Street on its way east to McLean. The village was platted in 1858 and incorporated in 1876, and the county line runs through it, so a homeowner on one side of town is in Logan County and a neighbor on the other is in Mason County; it makes no difference to us, but it matters for which fire protection district you call about a burn pile.

This is the sandy northwest corner of our territory, where the black prairie gives way to lighter ground, and the trees show it: cottonwood, silver maple and honeylocust grow fast and root wide, Scotch pine and red cedar do well in the windbreaks, and the dead ash are the same as everywhere else.
